In our continuing exploration of finding the “Right Pet For You”, let’s take a look at Children Friendly Dogs.

I get calls quite often from people wanting to know, since they have children, what would be a great dog to get for the family. They’re looking for a pet that is children friendly and will make a good addition to the family. Of course there isn’t one particular breed that’s the best for everybody but I do have four of them that I usually recommend. Let me tell you about them now.

Let’s start off with the Labrador Retriever. To put it simply I love labs. Labs are great dogs and they usually love everybody. The fact that they have a short coat means they are easy for grooming purposes, however keep in mind that they do shed quite a bit.

Even though selecting the right breed of dog for you and your family seems like it should be easy in all actuality it is not. There are so many breeds to choose from with so many different characteristics. However if you’ll follow some of the tips below and take time to do some research I know you can find the right dog.

So let’s start off with, are you thinking about a big dog are little dog? A lot of that depends on where you house the dog. Do you live in a small apartment, or do have a house with a nice backyard, or possibly do live in the country. These are all things to think about when you’re selecting a dog.

Over the years, pit bulls have developed a bad name because unfortunately, they have become popular with bad people. People who want to fight dogs have exploited one breed of dog after another for centuries. Within the last sixty years or so, we have seen these people ruin the reputation of German Shepherds, Dobermans, Rottweilers and now Pit Bulls.

The fact is, for a dog to be willing and able to be a fighting dog, it must be a very loyal, intelligent dog who will do absolutely anything to please its master. Meanness has nothing to do with it. It is eagerness to please that pre-disposes a dog to do something entirely foreign to its nature. Little do these loyal dogs know that if they lose the fights they are forced to fight, they will be killed or abandoned by the masters to whom they have tried to be loyal.

OK, let’s be honest what isn’t there to like about a lab. If you’ve ever owned a lab you know what fantastic pets they make and if you haven’t owned a lab previously I hope this article will help you decide to choose a lab, in the future, for your next pet.

I have had “Labs” along with many other wonderful pets through the years. I always know that with a Lab, I will have a best friend by my side, for many years. My beloved Jack, was with me for 16 years. He was my hiking partner and companion. I have such wonderful memories. Everyone loved Jack and he was so good with ALL the kids in our rescue, both cats & dogs.
