Most dogs not only want but need a considerable amount of exercise. In fact if you pick up a good book about labradors or golden retrievers you’ll find that most of them will tell you that your dog needs to run 3 miles a day. So the question is are you up to it.

If you’re like most, you’re not running 3 miles a day so we have to find another way to exercise your dog adequately. Good long walks can help tremendously but again if you’re not a walker or the weather doesn’t allow how are you really going to get the dog exercised.

Over the years I’ve found that one of the things new dog owners always seem to be searching for is “The” cure for their dog’s bad behavior. When I say bad behavior that covers all sorts of things from barking, jumping, soiling in the house, you name it. When the dog gets a little older, if bad behaviors are not corrected, it seems that the behavior quite often turns to the fearful dog or the aggressive dog.

Curing all those bad behaviors is not particularly difficult but ideally the training should start early sometime between 4 to 6 months of age. The reason we start early is to teach good behavior before your beloved pet learns the bad behavior.

In our continuing exploration of finding the “Right Pet For You”, let’s take a look at Children Friendly Dogs.

I get calls quite often from people wanting to know, since they have children, what would be a great dog to get for the family. They’re looking for a pet that is children friendly and will make a good addition to the family. Of course there isn’t one particular breed that’s the best for everybody but I do have four of them that I usually recommend. Let me tell you about them now.

Let’s start off with the Labrador Retriever. To put it simply I love labs. Labs are great dogs and they usually love everybody. The fact that they have a short coat means they are easy for grooming purposes, however keep in mind that they do shed quite a bit.

Even though selecting the right breed of dog for you and your family seems like it should be easy in all actuality it is not. There are so many breeds to choose from with so many different characteristics. However if you’ll follow some of the tips below and take time to do some research I know you can find the right dog.

So let’s start off with, are you thinking about a big dog are little dog? A lot of that depends on where you house the dog. Do you live in a small apartment, or do have a house with a nice backyard, or possibly do live in the country. These are all things to think about when you’re selecting a dog.
